Helen

Helen is a Somerset girl at heart, but now lives in Worcestershire with her family. She loves to explore the nearby hills and valleys, with the odd stately home and garden thrown in for good measure. She can often be found juggling her camera and toddler, but is also partial to rummaging for treasures in charity shops, making vats of jam, getting stuck into a good book, and enjoying a slice (make that a slab…) of cake. She shares the tales of these adventures, the treasures she finds, and the photos she takes, on her blog.

A few questions about nice things...

Who do you most admire?

Anyone that dreams big, takes risks, stays true to themselves, and loves what they do.

What are your favourite possessions?

My ever-growing collection of books, all my photographs – both old and new, and a simple wooden rabbit that my Grandad made for me.

Tell us about your perfect day or weekend...

A slow morning at home. Cups of tea aplenty, plus croissants and homemade strawberry jam – preferably eaten whilst looking out over the sunshine-filled garden. Pottering around the house. Reading stories with my girl. Playing in the garden. Then a pub lunch perhaps (ploughmans, with plenty of cheese and chutney please), followed by a walk along the river or up the hills. An evening at home with friends would round it off perfectly – a glass of wine or two, some good food, and plenty of laughs.

What makes you happiest?

Time spent with my husband Rob and our daughter Isla, sunny evenings in the garden, getting stuck into a good book, sitting in front of a roaring fire, discovering new places to explore, growing my own veg, a quiet few minutes with a new magazine and a hot cup of tea.

What would you like to do in the future?

More of what I’m doing now! Writing more, taking more photos and spending more time crafting. Perhaps finally revisiting the children’s book I started writing. Oh and one day, I’d love to have a few chickens, pecking around at the bottom of the garden.
